Most threads that I have viewed don't mention the driveshaft for either swap. I imagine both the 5.0L and 5.8L are a little longer than the V6's. So I would think that it would have to be shortened, unless the motor mount kits place the engine in the same spot relative to where a (4.0L) V6 is placed.

Open up the new engine to see if it's even worth using (piston ring bearings, oil pump). Check for wear on the bottom end. Get a new thermostat ($5) and water pump ($50). Open up the engine, take out all the old gaskets, clean any residue off that the gaskets left. Get a full gasket kit ($110).
