To your primary question, if by racking the slide you mean as you would when chambering a round, but with an empty gun, then yes, that is bad on a 1911, or any semi-auto. The break in period for Kimbers is more intense than other more common 45's. However, when compared to higher dollar custom pieces, the break in is relatively short. It's all in the built in tolerances. Every gun is machined, to some degree. If the tolerances are close, as with the Kimber, the break in will be longer.Push the firing pin in, then pull down with the punch to remove the firing pin stop plate. The firing pin is sprung, so make sure you cover the firing pin with a finger to keep it from flying off.
