Just trying to figure out if it's possible before potentially wasting money on yet more scope rings. Yes, it is removable. First turn the up/down adjustment knob counter-clockwise until it comes off, then pivot the sight up and forward (careful not to lose the spring) and you will find 2 phillips head screws holding it onto the barrel.
I replace the barrel mounted rear sight with a slot blank, but you can also use a fold down rear sight if you prefer. D & T the reciever for a williams peep. Tang rear sight is an option. Peep rear sight: Have a gunsmith drill and tap the receiver for something like a Williams or Lyman receiver sight. Or have a tang sight installed and replace the existing rear sight with one that folds down out of the way. I agree with you on the bolt mounted peep from Steve's Gunz. I think the left side of the receiver is already drilled and tapped far a receiver sight, too. (Two holes, half inch apart, upper-rear left side.) Sorry!

On the new Rossi 92 bolt where that stupid wingnut safety thing is, would there be enough metal in the bolt to D&T the bolt for a Williams WGRS sight over the hole where the wingnut goes in. If so, would the bolt lock up tight enough to not move the sight every time you pull the trigger.
