The main nerf to Moonveil is to the stagger on Transient Moonlight, which was lowered to be equivalent to the stagger on Unsheathe (the basic Uchigatana weapon art). The Moonveil was once considered the most broken weapon in Elden Ring, and it wasn’t even close. The katana comes with the Ash of War "Transient Moonlight,” which essentially is the “Unsheathe” Ash of War with an extended area of effect because of a moon beam that shoots out of the katana after unsheathing. It's still pretty damn OP - they nerfed the crazy posture damage on the weapon art, but it still does tons of damage for its speed/range/FP cost - but there's no reason not to use it if you think it's cool. It has bleed build up and is available pretty early on and has reasonably low requirements. The vertical AoW still does good poise damage if you hit . It's still strong. Has good range, comes out really fast, and well, is a katana - (unfortunately) best weapon class in the game. It's a solid weapon to add to a mage build. As for the hype, maybe your friend was playing from day 1.

Moonveil is one of the best int scaling weapons in the game. Thanks. That’s what I was thinking. It’s a nice weapon to have for a mage/spell blade build. If you upgrade it and go dual katanas with any other katana the moonveil is good lots of damage and bleed build also the weapon art is pretty good.
