Subject: RE: John Deere 8440 on big baler. Huntley Montana. My thought is I need tires set WIDE so I can feed the baler right without running on the swath. I have my fronts on MFWDs set @ 102" centers (just because when I haul I want 1/2 the tire on the trailer or I would be wider) & the backs where the inside to inside is the same as the fronts.My 8440 is about 200 hp and pulls most things ok but is a little underpowered in some operations. Only farming about 500 acres right now with a full time job, but would like to start growing a little bit. Tractor has just over 10,000 hrs and less than a 1,000 on engine o/h and clutch rebuild. It was suggested to me that I overhaul the seals in the steering motor so I did. This took care of the problem, but after start up wheels turned all the way to left.Both are rated the same hp but the difference is the engines. One has the 466 the other has the 531. He has pulled the same plow with both of them. The 8450 has to be wrapped up all the way and you can't take off with the plow in the ground. The 7520 it just the opposite.
