Sportsman 48 Will Not Cycle. Hello! I'm working on a 1953 vintage Remington Sportsman 48, 12 gauge that fires, but does not cycle. The barrel does retract into the receiver, but the bolt appears to reach a high-friction point about two-thirds of the way through its travel. I've cleaned and lightly lubed the recoil spring and friction rings.With shotguns, there were Sportsman Semi Auto (1931-1949) and 1100 Remington Sportsman Model's (1985)and now a synthtic stocked 11-87 Sportsman. I assume that it is not a pump shotgun and that it is semi-automatic. Given the 30 year old data point it may be a Sportsman variant of the 1100 Remington.
