If cowling just has 150 Black max its a 2.0L, If it has Xr2 its a 2.0L if its says Xr4 its a 2.4L. Quickest and easy way to tell is look on cylinder head casting as it will have 3-1/8 (2.0L) or 3-3/8 (2.4L) cast into the side of it. OK first put the thermostats back in. The thermostats restrict and control the amount of water around the cylinder head. If you run without thermostats the water is circulating too fast and doesn't allow the cylinder head to run at the proper temperature and doesn't allow the cooling water to take the heat from the engine.
