The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil. There are no stickers under the hood near the dipstick/oil fill to indicate either.Oct 30, 2019 · 2020 Duramax thumping sound. Thumping sound heard at idle and increases with RPM as you drive. 2019 Chevy Duramax L5P Ticking. Engine has a pretty loud tick when I first start it up, sounds like it’s coming from the drivers side but it’s hard to determine. It also increase with RPMs. Once I drive it and get it up to operating temp. It seems to go away. I’ve listened to typewriter tick but this sounds a little bit different.

Don't know if that is what your noise is but if it is the torque convertor bolt and it comes loose it can cause lots of damage. That is the correct procedure. However, if the knocking noise stopped, whatever was causing the noise wasn't spinning. That's how you've eliminated the engine internals. If the noise continues when the torque converter is no longer attached and spinning, then the noise is coming from something that's moving/spinning. It only happens while the truck is running and it's coming from the engine clearly herd from the wheel wells. It sounds like a hot exhaust cooling down and the crack/pop/ticks you get. Again it happens ONLY while running and the truck is not in a regen.
