It regenerates and isn't necessarily an indication of anything. What your doctor told you is the standard recommendation, and there's nothing they can do based on the mucus plug alone. I wouldn't be concerned and I think you're fine to wait until the 9th unless you start getting actual indications of labor like contractions or your water breaks.
