I'm considering replacing my 75 hp two stroke ten year old mercury with a new 60 hp Mercury four stroke. My dealer has the Big foot lower unit only in stock and recommends it over the standard gear case. I realize that Mercury recommends the big foot for pontoons and heavier boats.

May 21, 2013 · So back to my problem, why does the engine goes down and back up in 200 to 500rpm ratios when running at less than 2,400 rpm. At the higher rpm I either don't feel/notice it or the engine runs fine (maxes out @ 5,900 rpm (34 mph)) Also this 4-stroke idles like my 2 stroke 25 hp (rough) and therefore vibrates and sounds rough at 800 rpm.
