The spent case will stove pipe with a new round trying to be chambered. This happens about ever other round fired. The rifle has been cleaned prior to shooting with good quality fresh ammo.

The 10/22 can be turned into a decent shooter if you want to replace everything except the reciever and spend a lot of money in the process. The 552 is great out of the box.
